Playing Werewolf

Werewolf was a game that was played (among other occurences) at FuCamp and RegioWikiCamp09 in Furtwangen.

The story

Once upon a time there was a village. It was mainly inhabited by villagers, but there also were other "things": a seer, a healer and some werewolfs. Every night, they kill a villager unless they are caught by the remaining villagers.

What you need

Preparation

  1. Prepare the cards. Write on them:
    • S for seer (1x)
    • H for healer (1x)
    • W for werewolf (2 for less then 13 people, 3 for more)
  2. Give one card to each person in a way, that only this person can see what is on it.
  3. Everyone looks at their cards and puts them away, so nobody sees their content.
  4. Now the roles for the game are clear ...

During the game

Night

  1. Game master: "the whole village is going to sleep" - Everyone closes their eyes and start clapping on their thighs.
  2. GM: "werewolves, awake" - The ones with the w on the card open their eyes.
  3. GM: "werewolves, pick a victim" - The werewolves signal the gm who they want to kill.
  4. GM: "werewolves, fall asleep again". - They close their eyes again.
  5. GM: "seer, awake" - The seer opens his eyes.
  6. GM: "seer, find out the true nature of a human being" - The seer points to someone. The GM shows him with his fingers, if the person is a villager (V) or a werewolf (W).
  7. GM: "seer, fall asleep again" - The seer closes his eyes.
  8. GM: "healer, awake" - The healer opens his eyes.
  9. GM: "healer, pick someone to heal" - The healer points at the person he wants to heal (often himself).
  10. GM: "healer, fall asleep again" - The healer closes his eyes.
  11. GM: "The village awakes and finds ..."
    • "... the person killed by the werewolves lying in his blood." more."
    • "... blood on the floor." (if the person picked by the werewolves was the same person, the healer pointed on)
  12. If the killed person wasn't healed, it has to turn its chair around and is no longer allowed to participate in the game.

Day

  1. GM: "the village awakes and ... lies in his/her blood".
  2. The villagers discuss how might be a werewolf.
  3. When they accuse a villager, the trial starts.
  4. The accused villager has the chance to defend himself/herself.
  5. If the villagers still believe that he's a werewolf, they "hang" him.
  6. The villagers continue discussing and accusing until they hang somebody.

End of game
